Grilled stickies gone! Byrnes & Kiefer’s closure 86’s Eat’n Park's 'signature dessert'

Byrnes & Kiefer's abrupt halt to Western PA operations has claimed another casualty: Eat'n Park's grilled stickies à la mode

The longtime Pittsburgh-area restaurant chain and salad bar purveyor confirmed to the Pittsburgh Independent that Byrnes & Kiefer's closure has resulted in a "pause" for their "signature dessert."

"With a legacy item like this one, we’re being very intentional with our evaluation of replacement options," wrote Courtney Caprara, marketing manager for Eat’n Park Hospitality Group.

The news was first reported by WTAE. It comes as Penn Hills-based Turner's Dairy introduced a new "Grilled Sticky A La Mode" flavored whole milk into the market Monday.

"The new Turner’s milk flavor is unaffiliated, and Eat’n Park was not involved with this product," wrote Caprara.

Founded in 1902, in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, Byrnes & Kiefer provided commercial baking products to clients like Eat’n Park and Giant Eagle. And until late 2021, Byrnes & Kiefer also manufactured Reymers’ Lemon Blennd, an orange-lemon flavored drink that was popular in Pittsburgh for over a century.

Byrnes & Kiefer ended operations in Butler and Mercer County in late December, 2022, firing dozens of workers over the holidays with no advance notice, ending 120 years of Western PA operations.
