"If you came here tonight looking for rock and roll, you came to the right place," Brandon Flowers roared from the stage as The Killers opened their set at the Petersen Events Center. "Sunday Nights aren't supposed to feel like this."
He was right: Sunday nights aren't usually this fun. From Flowers' high-energy stage presence to the stunning visual effects and confetti showers, the band pulled out all the stops for a sold-out Pittsburgh crowd more ready than ever to see the Las Vegas rock band's first North American tour in six years.
The setlist for the two-hour concert was a whirlwind that kept the audience on their feet, from new singles, like "Boy" and the Phoebe Bridgers-collab "Runaway Horses," to Hot Fuss classics that brought out the loudest moments: "All These Things That I've Done", " "Somebody Told Me", and of course, the grand finale, "Mr. Brightside."
The March 19 concert was rescheduled from its original date of October 2020. It marked the first time in 10 years since Pittsburgh hosted the Killers. It was certainly worth the wait.
Flowers told the crowd, "If there is a bonus to us rescheduling this event, it is that you are getting a refreshed version of this band," as he introduced his new touring band.
He also revealed that he holds Pittsburgh dear to his heart, as his father grew up in Pennsylvania, and he proudly inherited the Steelers growing up. The crowd went wild as he exclaimed, "Yellow and Black for life!" What a special moment that only Pittsburgh could understand.
The band wasn't shy to pull out the stops and keep the crowd on their feet throughout the night. There were several shots of confetti released over the crowd during peaks of songs, and perhaps the most exciting of the night were the sparklers that lit up the stadium, shooting up from the stage. The Killers are currently touring across 3 countries, with 12 more stops after Pittsburgh.
As they continue their tour, it's clear that The Killers are still at the top of their game. For those lucky enough to catch them live, this concert was an unforgettable experience filled with great music and unforgettable moments. It's no wonder that fans have been eagerly anticipating their return to Pittsburgh for over a decade - and hopefully, it won't be another ten years before we get to see them again.
